YUGEN began in 1962 as a modest bathhouse fed by a single thermal spring in the hills of Hakone. Three generations later, we remain guardians of the same water — now paired with a full spa of massage, facial and body therapies for both men and women.
Everything here follows the seasons. The teas we serve, the botanicals in our oils, the flowers in the alcove — all shift with the Japanese calendar, so that no two visits are ever quite the same.
We draw only from natural hot springs and use botanicals grown in the Japanese countryside. No shortcuts, no synthetics — the mountain sets the pace.
The Japanese art of wholehearted hospitality. Every guest — man or woman, first-timer or regular — is anticipated, never merely served.
Silence and emptiness are treatments in themselves. Our layout leaves room to breathe, so the mind can settle before the body does.
Comfort is never for show. Every detail exists to return you — lighter and clearer — to the life waiting beyond our doors.
